Agriculture Sector
At the moment, the agricultural sector is fragmented and the general perception of its ability to guarantee a dignified livelihood is unfortunately poor. There is an urgent need to increase small-holder farmers’ income by a factor of 3 to 5 if the country is to preserve the backbone of its economy against the decay of traditional know-how and practices. With more than half of the country’s total workforce involved in agriculture and its allied sectors, this is no easy task, prompting systemic changes in regulation, markets and cultivation models. We are convinced that we can make a positive impact in this aspect, for example by rejuvenating traditional cottage industries and creating the necessary market linkages to make them economically viable.
